The 2017 Alpha King Challenge (AKC), an annual event that pits the best hoppy beers on the planet, was won a second time by Thizz Is What It Is from Belching Beaver (San Diego, Calif.) The double IPA, brewed by Thomas Peters, bested 150 hoppy beers from around the U.S. Peters’ Pound Town Triple IPA also won the competi-tion in 2014. The AKC is sponsored by YCHops, Three Floyds Brewing and American Brewer/Brewing News publications. Fourteen beers were pushed to the final round, with a best of show winner being chosen from those 14 beers. Second place in the 2017 AKC was Double Dank , from Sunriver Brewing’s (Sunriver, Ore.) Brett Thomas. Third place was won by Pinthouse Pizza’s (Austin, Texas) Joe Mohrfield for his double IPA Nomura . The other final round beers were: The Cat’s Meow , brewed by Exhibit A’s (Framingham, Mass.) Matthew Steinberg Benevolent Overlord , brewed by Moonraker’s (Auburn, Calif.) Adam Robbings Proliferous , brewed by Seventh Son’s (Columbus, Ohio) Colin Vent Alpha Chief , brewed by Indian Joe’s (Vista, Calif.)
